STIG LUNDGREN
1950–2003
Stig Lundgren devoted his life to painting, developing a personal and vibrant style shaped by intimacy, sensitivity, and a deep understanding of the expressive power of colour. He was born in Boden, Sweden, and later moved to Stockholm, where he studied at Konstfack and the Royal Institute of Art. From an early stage, he chose to follow his own path, remaining independent of prevailing trends and committed to his distinctive visual language.
When he debuted with an exhibition in Stockholm in 1987, his work was met with strong acclaim, and over the years he was awarded several prestigious art scholarships. In his later work, he sought to refine and simplify his expression, often drawing inspiration from the landscapes of northern Sweden. He spent many summers at his cottage outside Boden, where fir and birch trees became recurring motifs in his work.
Stig Lundgren leaves behind a substantial body of work that continues to resonate and inspire. His sense of intimacy and commitment endures, both in his paintings and in the memory of those who experienced his art closely.
His work is represented in the collections of Moderna Museet, the Public Art Agency Sweden, and in municipal, regional, and private collections.
